The Beginning

When you were a teenager or young adult, did you ever date someone that your loved ones warned you not to date? Well, I did. Family and friends saw all the red flags and encouraged me to not follow through with the relationship. When you’re young and dumb you often ignore the flaws you saw because you’re caught up in the moment. My parents are begging for me to break it off, siblings urging me to see the light, friends sharing not so pleasant stories about him- yet he seemed he changed to me and for me. Ignorant, I know. And because everyone is pushing you in the other direction, you choose to get closer to him. You make the wise decision to move in with him after just a year and a half. You start to really see the red flags everyone warned you about. The signs were all there before, but the veil was officially taken off. There was verbal, mental and emotional abuse that got worse. The name calling, the yelling, the throwing of things and it feels like a nightmare. You then see pictures and messages from other women that makes your heart sink. The messages and pictures that he denies that “nothing happened”.  You feel less than and you start believing the verbal abuse lies. You fall into this “things will get better” mentality, because that’s what you want and deserve. Until it doesn’t and you end up pregnant by him, against your will. You’re in this mix of emotions. You are scared, you are nervous, you are anxious, you are shocked, all while excited to have a beautiful baby.
